Taking Strides Toward Accreditation Readiness

Crucial conversations and connections have been happening to move University of the Bahamas into a thriving new culture of continuous improvement which includes significant progress in its journey towards accreditation readiness. 

Deans, chairs, heads of departments, and members of the Academic Senate have been engaged in an extensive review of compliance requirements for faculty and academic achievement, recognizing the vital importance of these aspects in earning and maintaining accreditation.

Hosted by the Office of Institutional Strengthening & Accreditation (OISA), a two-day workshop was held on Friday, October 21st, and Saturday, October 22nd, 2023 at Crypto Isle on East Bay Street. 

Facilitators, Dr. Sidney McPhee, UB consultant and President of Middle Tennessee State University, and Dr. Cheryl Cardell, a retired Vice President with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC), shared invaluable insights and expertise.

Mrs. Allyson Maynard-Gibson KC, UB Board Chair, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their unwavering support and commitment to UB’s pursuit of national and international accreditation. 

She emphasized that this pivotal moment in UB’s journey symbolizes a new era of development, poised to broaden UB’s global footprint and unlock expanded opportunities for students, faculty, and employees alike.

Acting UB President Janyne Hodder’s active participation throughout the workshop underscored the university’s dedication to achieving excellence. 

Dr. Danny Davis, Assistant Vice President of OISA, expressed encouragement at the remarkable turnout, with an impressive 82% attendance rate, including representation from UB North faculty.

UB remains steadfast in its commitment to providing a world-class education and fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.

Faculty actively participated in workshop sessions to move the needle on academic development.
